Why Do You Want to Become a Moderator?
I believe I have several compelling reasons that demonstrate my suitability for a moderating role. Firstly, I do not prioritize status or the exertion of authority over others. In fact, I consider the possession of a moderator title not to be a higher authority, but to be someone who helps aid Mountain Interactive's RP via quality insurance. I have worked in customer service roles as a residential community coordinator and a Resident Assistant, which has enhanced my experience as a player. I understand that being older than probably 80% of the players means I hold myself to a higher standard. My age enables me to consider issues from multiple perspectives. I have effectively managed conflict resolution situations, ensuring that both parties feel equally welcomed and satisfied with the outcomes. I believe patience is key in moderation, whether it be online social media groups or through a game like this. I have held roles surrounding group moderations and have often worked through communities outside of gaming, which I believe has developed my social skills. As a mod, you should have the mindset to sort through cases even if it requires you to evaluate footage, read reports, monitor a player, or listen to communication between players. Thus, patience is vital. As a former helpdesk employee in information technology, I believe this is one of my strong suits.
I believe what drove me to apply was the fact that some mods did not know how to turn off the playfulness. This allowed serious offenses to go unnoticed or not be taken seriously. Rather, in LA or Perris, a lack of moderation means that players often will feel like their reports or concerns are not addressed. This perception pushed me to apply. I will admit that the purge of mods also pushed me to apply because I saw a way to make a change, not only as a player but as a volunteer. I don't need the perks, I don't need the access to guns, I simply want to take my IRL life experiences and guild players towards an enjoyable game.
My history with MI is not deep. And I don't intend to sugarcoat things here. I am an honest person. I often share what needs to be said, even if sometimes folks may seek to run away from it. (This is done in moderation and at the right time.)
I am offering to do this for no perks or advantages because, as a volunteer, I think this will allow me to blend into the community, as I have already done.
Are You Familiar with Any Current Staff Members?
I think several formal and still current staff members can vouch for my professional standards both in-game and out of game(via Discord). I do not prioritize friendships or establishing relationships among individuals, regardless of whether I know them or not. I genuinely value the opportunity to assist others, regardless of their level of understanding. I seek to provide support and, even in instances where I lack specific knowledge, I believe I can adapt and find such information.
When Are You Usually Available to Moderate?
I can do the following time zones:
Monday - Wednesday (5 AM to 12 PM EST)
Thursday - Friday (3 PM to 12 AM EST) Weekends - 12 AM -12 pm EST on most weekdays
I occasionally have a lot of downtime during the weekends and can be on for seven hours or more.
How Would You Handle rule-breaking?
Explain how you would deal with first-time offenders and repeat offenders, and what punishments you would apply. Show you understand how to be fair, consistent, and firm.
Several RPD members would be able to share insight on this. I am an analytical thinker; I speak on facts and not hypotheticals. Therefore, I think from both sides of the table when looking at offenses. I take into consideration the player experience and time within the community. I would offer the ability for the player to redeem themselves depending on the offense.
A repeated offender deserves a harsher sentence, but I believe offenses that do violate TOS deserve a second chance.
