    Moderation History @ Mountain Interactive

I have previously been employed with Mountain Interactives’ Trust and Safety Team. I have been employed on two separate occasions however due to real life commitments, I was unable to efficiently conduct my duties and for that reason I tendered my resignation on both occasions. Linked below are message logs of sanctions I have issued in the course of my role to show as evidence of previous employment with Mountain Interactive.

In addition to this, I have discovered old forums of handled reports and appeals which can further be used as evidence that I was previously employed within MI.

Moderation History

  1. Do you have any active warnings or bans within the past 6 months?
    (Yes)

  2. Have you ever been permanently banned?
    (No)

  3. If you answered "Yes" to any of the above, please explain:

I have one (1) warning which is recent by approximately 1.5 - 2 weeks for ‘V-SRU’ on Perris. The context to this situation is that I was warned for being outwith the SRU station. The staff member who issued this punishment was unaware of the fact that I had left the SRU station in response to a distress message on the radio and simply got caught up in another incident on the way back. Feel free to contact me for evidence to support my claims in regards to this.

Additional Questions

  1. Why do you want to join the Mountain Interactive Staff Team?
There are a variety of reasons that I am interested in once again joining the ever-growing Trust and Safety team with Mountain Interactive. My primary rationale for seeking a position in this role is my drive to satisfy - I enjoy helping people in my personal life and I find this to be a trait that I enjoy transferring to all aspects of my life, including to my time spent online. I enjoy being part of a team that strives to provide such a high level of service to the community and I am nothing but dissatisfied with the fact that my personal commitments have forced me to resign in the past due to a lack of spare time to dedicate to the role. I would add that I hope to join the MI Trust and Safety team so that I can once again provide my services to the community. Lastly for this question, I am looking to join the team so that I can further involve myself in the community once again and work to provide an experience that is optimal for the community as I understand first hand how stressful it is to be a victim of rule violators with no staff available to deal with the matter in the moment.

  2. What skills or qualities do you have that would make you a valuable member of the staff team?
I have a whole host of skills and qualities which are vital for the role of moderator with Mountain Interactive. On top of these, I have qualifications which equip me for dealing with situations that your typical applicant won’t be as capable in dealing with. As for the vital roles and qualities, I will provide them in a list.

    • Communication Skills

I am extremely competent when it comes to displaying and exercising positive communication skills, this is a trait which I gained through my own experiences and real life professions. This is an extremely important quality for moderators to possess as it provides enhanced productivity and helps to build relationships with colleagues and members of the community.

    • Teamwork Skills

I excel in team environments and particularly enjoy roles where I am required to work in a team due to the opportunities it provides for building new relationships and learning skills from other people in my team. Teamwork is especially important for moderators as they are required to be a part of the Trust and Safety Team where they are expected to communicate and work in unison with other moderators, demonstrating teamwork skills at all points of their career.

    • Empathetic Approach

Being empathetic is often an overlooked quality in moderators. I would certainly describe myself as an empathetic person which is a direct result of my own personal experiences. As someone who is empathetic, this helps you greatly in the de-escalation and handling of heated situations as it helps you view and understand a situation from someone’s eyes which can help you to come to fairer and more reasonable conclusions. This directly links to the requirement to be able to de-escalate situations, which is extremely important in this role as you are likely to be brought into challenging situations with no understanding of the problem at hand. In this type of situation, if I determined that I would not be able to de-escalate through verbal communication, I would separate the parties involved or disable them from communicating with each other then gather context and come to a conclusion.

    • Level Headed Mindset

Lastly, one of the most important qualities for moderators would be the ability to keep calm in stressful situations and not over-react. This is essential for staff members as it allows them to remain calm, ultimately offering them the essential level of thinking required to issue fair and unbiased punishments whilst keeping situations from running out of control. In general, being level headed and remaining calm links to most, if not all other skills and qualities - a moderator who is unable to remain calm is destined to cause more damage than they can fix.

In my real life, I do volunteer youth work with challenged young people. I won’t go into a great deal of detail as the role that I am in isn’t very common, however if any senior staff members wish to be provided context they are free to

reach out to me. The role provides me with a great deal of experience and has equipped me for handling various difficult situations under stress which I feel will be ultimately beneficial for me in this role.

  1. Have you been involved in any other communities or teams? If so, please list them and describe your role:
    Mountain Interactive - Community Moderator

    Description: N/A

Paragon Research Institute - Community Moderation Team

Description: As a moderator with the Paragon Research Institute, I was primarily responsible for discord moderation which required me to demonstrate de-escalation skills.

  1. How would you handle a conflict between two community members?
I would begin my conflict resolution in this situation by separating the individuals involved in order to prevent further rule violations or offence to anyone present. Once I have established what has happened and what has been said, I will review the facts and context to understand the situation which will allow me to decide on the most appropriate course of action. Once I have an understanding of the situation, I will deal with rule violations as outlined in staff policies and deal with the situation as I see fit - primarily focusing on preventing this situation from re-occurring.

  2. Describe a time you had to solve a difficult problem in a leadership or team role:
The situation that comes to mind is one where I was required to de-escalate a large conflict between staff members in a team I managed. In order to do this, I spoke with everyone separately in voice calls as I feel this allows me to better display my sincerity and understanding to a situation as people are able to hear the tone in my voice. Once I had spoken to everyone, I got an understanding of the situation and released a notice explaining how important a positive team environment is and explaining that the situation at hand was not worth causing issues or arguing over. Once this notice had been released, I allowed a few days for my staff to come to terms with the situation and invited them all to a team meeting where we could discuss any issues we had been experiencing. By this point, any ‘hard feelings’ to the situation had passed and we managed to have a good laugh about how ridiculous the situation was.

  1. How do you prioritize tasks when managing multiple responsibilities?
When it comes to prioritizing or ‘triaging’ my tasks, I will perform an assessment to understand the effects each task could have, negative or positive, if not completed. Once I understand the consequences of not completing each task, I will evaluate what I feel needs to be completed first. My primary role when prioritizing tasks is minimalizing damage, I take on the most important task first and complete the least important task last whilst keeping in mind the consequences my actions have and being situationally aware.

  2. What do you think is the most important value for a Mountain Interactive Staff member to uphold, and why?
I feel that the most important value for a member of the Trust and Safety Team to uphold would be the competence and ability to work with young people. This role provides people with a position of authority over younger individuals of all ages which is why I feel that it is absolutely essential all staff members uphold a standard when it comes to practicing in environments with younger individuals. Staff members who are incompetent or irresponsible in this role could cause a variety of damage to community members due to their role model status.

  3. How would you support and encourage new members of the community?
If I were to be looking to encourage a new member of the community, I would help them by giving them advice that I wish I had known when I first joined Mountain Interactive. I would spend some time playing the game with them and provide them with some vital information for being a part of the community. I would simply be a friendly face for them - this alone will have someone much more likely to stay in the community as a positive and supporting environment is essential for player retention.

  4. What are your long-term goals, and how does being part of Mountain Interactive align with them?
In the long term, I want to give back to the community and work to provide players with a high standard of roleplay - preventing rule violators and bad faith actors from playing any role in the community.

  5. Are there any areas within the community you feel need improvement? If so, what ideas do you have to address them?
I feel that there should be a little bit more focus around new players, this could be done through means of an introduction to the community - explaining common questions or issues as it can be quite daunting for your average Roblox player to stumble across such an advanced community with a dedicated website which links to their games on Roblox.
