What Happened? While on duty as an HCSD Supervisor, I initially noticed an FCPD officer conducting an arrest outside of their jurisdiction, which prompted me to approach and investigate. As I got closer, I heard the officer tell the detainee, “The tickets aren’t working, I have to arrest you,” which I immediately recognized as untrue because I had witnessed another individual receive a valid citation for excessive noise only minutes earlier.
I then asked the officer whether they had used radar to confirm the speeding allegation, since the detainee was reportedly being arrested for speeding. Earlier that day, I had seen this same officer disciplined for detaining someone for a crime that did not exist, so I already had concerns regarding their competence. Instead of responding, the officer continuously ignored my questions, which led me to request SBI assistance due to their suspicious and evasive behavior.
After I asked multiple times, the officer finally answered and stated that they were relying on “visual evidence” for the speeding charge, which is not an accepted legal standard for determining speed. They claimed the suspect was traveling 120 mph in a 40 mph zone. I instructed the officer to remain on scene while I awaited SBI support; however, they repeatedly attempted to leave despite my clear direction not to.
At the time of the incident, no FCPD supervisors or SBI members were available, which is shown clearly in the clip through both the team changer and my radio requests. Because the officer was becoming increasingly uncooperative, I switched to the SBI team so I could properly investigate the situation and maintain control of the scene.
During this period, the officer escalated the charge from speeding to reckless driving. When I asked for the specific criteria they used to justify that escalation, they once again ignored me. Their continued attempts to leave the scene, even after my repeated instructions to remain, caused me to draw my firearm and step onto the hood of their vehicle in an effort to prevent them from fleeing. Despite this, the officer still left the scene, which resulted in me switching to SBI and arresting them for leaving without any form of supervisor approval or authorization.

Why Should You Be Unbanned?
I believe I should be unbanned because my participation was simply to stop another illegitimate arrest, instead of just to stir up problems for the officers. At the time, there was no supervisor, moderator, or member of command online in either division, and I had already seen multiple questionable arrests happen throughout the day. On top of that, I had observed the same officer from the earlier arrest shown to be unprofessional, so once I saw that officer trying to make another arrest outside of their jurisdiction and lying to the individuals about what they were doing, it immediately raised a flag for me. Because there was no one of higher rank online, it felt as though if I did not intervene the scenario would turn into another wrongful arrest. And I understand, at this point, that maybe that was not the proper course of action for the situation. Even if the officer was not responding to questions, was acting suspiciously, or even walking off, I could have kept my emotions in check and at the very least remained professional by adhering to procedure instead of feeling my emotions take control.
