What Happened? On October 29th, 2025, I responded on duty as an SBI officer to an open-carry call at the Ventura Bank. As I approached the scene, radio traffic called out "ARMED SUSPECT" at 0:33:46. At the exact moment, another message transmitted "(The) Bank is now a hostage situation." This message was transmitted before the message mentioned above, but they were sent at the same time. I exited my car at 0:3:51 and, in real-time, prioritized the imminent rifle threat in front of me.
Once on scene, I observed a subject controlling a hostage with a rifle pointed to his back, while a second suspect raised a rifle towards the hostage. At that moment, the situation escalated to an immediate lethal threat ot life. I fired to stop the threat, and did not strike the hostage. A third suspect (Connor Jefferson) then walked up and picked up a firearm in the middle of the situation. Given the totality, being the downed armed suspects and hostae risk still ongoing, I treated that as an imminent deadly threat and engaged. After these two incidents, two additional armed subjects exchanged gunfire with officers and were also shot and killed.
My decision to kill was made in seconds based on information that I could perceive, not out-of-character knowledge.
Ban Reason "NITRP, FRP"
FRP is defined as "breaking immersion/actions that make no sense," and NITRP is defined as "low-quality/unrealistic RP: killing without reason, trolling, etc."
My position is that my actions were well within roleplay, threat-based, and proportionate.
I waited to fire until the second suspect presented a rifle at the hostage.
The third subject picked up a firearm during an active shooting scene, objectively creating an imminent hazard to life.
I did not troll, bait, or RDM as my actions were in response to specific lethal cues consistent with real-world hostage doctrine. (ex. stop the imminent threat, preserve human life.)
Why Should You Be Unbanned?
I've learned that I need to be more aware of radio updates. I focused on the "armed suspect" and missed the weight of the "hostage" call. I also learned that even when a lethal cue occurs, if I have cover and time to spare, I should verbalize and coordinate. (eg, "I have letahl", "You cover", etc.). I think I deserve another chance because my full intent was to preserve life within the scene. I fired only when my imminent-threat threshold was crossed (when the hostage had a second rifle raised to their head). I'm willing to learn and hold myself to higher standards than minimal rules, and I hope to learn from this experience.
I also understand that admins may argue:
"You ignored the hostage callout," which is fair, but I acknowledge the timing issue, and I am committed to focusing on the radio better in the future.
"You escalated too fast", but I acted in the moment when a rifle was aimed at the hostage. I will attempt to vocalize and command presence next time.
"Shooting the third suspect was FRP", which is iffy, but I still believe it was justified, given that he armed himself by grabbing a rifle from a downed suspect during an active gunfight, but I recognize that, if time permits in the future, I should have challenged him verbally first.
