CAL-GUARD Division Structure & Assignments


This Is the official Rank/ division. structure and assignment board

1. 40th Infantry Division (“Sunburst Division”)

Role: Main ground combat division responsible for defense, combat patrols, and active deployment scenarios.

Subunits:

  • 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT)

    • Companies: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta

    • Roles: Standard infantry, raid teams, security patrols

  • 2nd Armored Reconnaissance Battalion

    • Roles: Scouting, intel gathering, armored vehicle ops

Assigned Ranks:

  • Enlisted (E-1 to E-4): Rifleman, RTO (Radio Operator), Grenadier

  • NCOs (E-5 to E-9): Fireteam Leaders, Squad Leaders, Platoon Sergeants

  • Officers (O-1 to O-5): Platoon Leaders, Company Commanders

  • Field Grade (O-6+): Brigade CO, Division CO

2. 1st Battalion, 185th Infantry Regiment

Role: Light infantry battalion focused on urban combat, close-quarters battle, and rapid deployment.

Subunits:

  • Alpha Company: Urban Combat Team

  • Bravo Company: Support Weapons Unit

  • Charlie Company: Field Ops/Logistics

  • Delta Company: Air Assault Team (fast-rope insertion)

Special Assignments:

  • Designated Marksman (DM)

  • Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)

  • Combat Engineers

Ranks: Same as 40th ID, but with light-infantry specialization

3. 49th Military Police Brigade (MP)

Role: Law enforcement, detention operations, base security, riot control

Subunits:

  • Garrison Police Detachment: Enforces laws on base

  • Quick Reaction Force (QRF): Responds to riots/emergencies

  • JAG Corps Liaison Team: Legal affairs and investigations

Key Assignments:

  • Military Police Officer (E-2 to E-6)

  • MP Squad Leader (E-5/E-6)

  • Platoon Sergeant (E-7+)

  • MP Investigative Officer (O-2+)

  • Brig Warden/Corrections (E-3 to E-6)

4. California Air National Guard (CANG)

Role: Air operations, reconnaissance, air support, transport

Air Wings:

  • 144th Fighter Wing: Fighter jets (CAP, strike, recon)

  • 129th Rescue Wing: Helicopters, pararescue, evac

  • 146th Airlift Wing: C-130 and cargo transport

Key Assignments:

  • Airmen (E-1 to E-4) – Loadmasters, Crew Chiefs

  • Pilot Trainee (WOC/W1) – Under Warrant Officer Program

  • Helicopter Pilot (WO1+) – UH-60, HH-60

  • Jet Pilot (CW2+) – F-15, F-16 RP

  • Flight Officer (O-2+) – Wing Command Staff

  • Airfield Commander (O-5/O-6)

5. 129th Rescue Wing (CA PJ - Pararescue)

Role: Elite rescue ops, medevac, combat search & rescue

Selection Requirements:

  • Pass PJT (Pararescue Training)

  • Certified in Medical RP & Extraction RP

Assignments:

  • PJ Operator (E-4 to E-7)

  • PJ Team Leader (E-6/E-7)

  • PJ Officer-in-Charge (O-2 to O-4)

  • Embedded with Aviation or Infantry units during missions

6. California State Special Operations Command (S-SOC)

Role: Covert operations, black ops, high-risk infiltration, hostage rescue

Subdivisions:

  • 1st SFOD-D (Delta Detachment): Tier 1 spec ops

  • SRU (Special Recon Unit): Long-range surveillance

  • CIT (Counter-Insurgency Team): High-threat engagement

Entry Requirements:

  • Complete SFAS, Q-Course, and pass psych evaluation RP

Assignments:

  • SF Operator (E-5+)

  • Recon Sniper (E-6+)

  • Team Sergeant (E-7/E-8)

  • Ops Officer (O-2/O-3)

  • Special Mission Unit Commander (O-4+)

7. California Medical Detachment (MEDCOM)

Role: Field care, trauma response, medevac support, base medical ops

Subunits:

  • Combat Medic Platoon: Attached to infantry

  • Field Hospital Unit: Base-side medical RP

  • Evacuation Team: Air-based or vehicle medevac

Assignments:

  • Combat Medic (E-3 to E-6)

  • Senior Medical NCO (E-7+)

  • Medical Officer (O-2+) – Coordinates health operations

  • Surgical Specialist (WO1+)

8. Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC)

Role: Conducts and oversees all training operations (BCT, AIT, WLC, OCS, SFAS)

Subunits:

  • Drill Sergeant Division – BCT, AIT instructors

  • Officer School (OCS) Staff – For aspiring officers

  • Advanced Schools Team – WLC, Q-Course, ATS

Assignments:

  • Drill Sergeant (E-5 to E-7)

  • Senior Instructor (E-7+)

  • TRADOC Officer (O-2 to O-4)

  • TRADOC Commander (O-6)

9. Joint Task Force - Emergency Response (JTF-ER)

Role: Civil support during emergencies: natural disasters, riots, mass rescue ops

Divisional Mix:

  • Elements from MP, Infantry, Aviation, and MedCom

  • Coordinates with Civil Agencies (RP)

Assignments:

  • Disaster Response Technician (E-2 to E-6)

  • Field Commander (O-3+)

  • JTF Liaison (WO1+) – Civil agency coordination

  • Rescue Ops NCO (E-6/E-7)
